There are a lot of illnesses that most of us don’t know anything about, this is why awareness raising campaigns are so important. Even knowing and recognising a disease can help. So when Rachel asked me to join the Alopecia Awareness event, of course I said yes….even though I didn’t have the faintest idea of what alopecia is.
So I googled it and I found out that it’s an autoimmune disease that causes serious hair loss and most of the times it affects children. For some unknown reasons the body starts to destroy hair-bulbs, so much that the person affected can become entirely bald in some cases.
So Glam Polish’s initiative is that today we post blue manicures using the #bluemanisforalopeciaawareness hashtag to raise awareness of alopecia. Moreover Glam Polish released a new shade – called Bad Hair Day – and they donate 7AUD of each bottle sold to the Australia Alopecia Foundation Inc. These donations will aid in purchasing wigs for children with alopecia.
And what can be easier and more obvious for us NPAs than to buy a nail polish and help in the process. Bad Hair Day is available at Hypnotic Polish, and costs 14 euros.
Since mostly children are affected with alopecia, I wanted to do my mani accordingly. I used Moyou Origami 06 plate and Mundo de Unas Iris and Holland Blue stamping polishes, so now I have unicorns and T-Rexes on my nails. I covered my nails with some China Glaze Fairy Dust too.
If you feel like joining in: paint your nails blue today, post it on Facebook or Instagram and use the #bluemanisforalopeciaawareness hashtag, so that more people can see them and be aware of alopecia. And if you will, buy Bad Hair Day. It’s a gorgeous polish and it helps children – I promise it will be a very good feeling. :)
